How easy is it to find technical writer jobs? We followed three young technology enthusiasts, Paul Juniper, Julie O’Toole and Simon Singer, and their quest to find freelance technical writing opportunities on the internet. Now you might be asking: why did we even think of starting this kind of experiment? The answer is simple. We wanted a way to show freelancers just how easy (or challenging) it is to find freelance work opportunities. Here we go!
First off, technical writer jobs are not as easy to find as you may think. If you’re not connected, or if you are a new freelancer seeking this kind of work right offhand, it becomes even more challenging because you don’t have the connections, nor do you have the contact base that can serve as a springboard to freelance technical writing opportunities.

But when you do use certain tools such as the internet to find technical writer jobs, it makes it just a tad easier. Paul and Julie used online freelance communities, while Simon stuck with a freelance marketplace known as the Freelance Work Exchange. All three were given up to one week to secure a freelance technical writing project.
Immediately Paul, Julie and Simon realized just how challenging it really is to find technical writer jobs. Not only is it a field of freelance writing that is pretty specialized and sometimes considered exclusive, but there just isn’t as much demand as there is with all other freelance writing projects.
