Dorothy O’Connor discovered her freelance career after quite an exciting and adventurous journey in life. Straight out of college and with her parents’ full support (and financial backing) Dorothy decided to become an adventurer and wanted to produce a documentary of her worldwide travel adventures.
In the process, she started to run short of cash and so what she needed to do was find another source of income to support her while she was travelling the world and creating a documentary. While staying in a small motel in Trinidad, she discovered a young man who claimed to do freelance writing. Freelance writing, she thought to herself? Dorothy wondered if this could be the way she could earn some income to support the rest of her trip, and pay for the production of her documentary.
Luckily, being the tech savvy adventurer that she was, Dorothy had enough resources to start a freelance writing service from wherever she was. She packed her trusty and rugged laptop and always had internet access through dial-up no matter where she went. Granted it cost a bit more, but she always had access to some local service that would provide her with lower rates while she was visiting different destinations.
Freelance
With this setup, Dorothy started freelance writing. She discovered writing jobs on freelance marketplace web sites, and she would bid on them while sharing her adventures with the potential clients. Always seemingly impressed, clients would take her freelance services on just because of how interesting she was.
And so that was really the launching point of Dorothy’s career in freelance. I’m sure she has had many adventures since then, but today she enjoys her brand new loft in sunny San Diego.
